FAQ — Moissanite, Gold Filled & Sterling Silver

Moissanite is a lab-created gemstone with nearly identical optical and physical properties to diamond — the same brilliance, the same fire, and nearly the same hardness (9.25 vs 10 on the Mohs scale). Our moissanite is D–E colorless, VVS clarity. Under any light it is indistinguishable from diamond to the naked eye.

Yes, on every piece set with moissanite. Moissanite has thermal properties nearly identical to natural diamond, so it reads as diamond on a thermal conductivity tester. If your moissanite piece fails a diamond tester, we will refund you in full.

GRA (Gemological Research Association) is an independent organization that certifies moissanite stones. Every moissanite piece ships with a GRA authenticity card documenting the stone's grade, dimensions and quality, at no extra charge. Our plain gold filled and sterling silver pieces have no stones, so they are sold on metal quality rather than gemstone grading.

It will not turn your skin green — there is no brass or mystery base metal in anything we sell.

Solid sterling silver will develop a patina over time, which is normal for the metal. A few seconds with a polishing cloth brings the shine straight back. Our gold filled pieces resist tarnish far better, because the bonded gold layer is roughly a hundred times thicker than plating.

To keep either looking new, avoid lotion, perfume and chlorine, and take your piece off before swimming.

Wipe the piece with a soft, lint-free cloth after wearing. For a deeper clean use a soft toothbrush with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap, then pat dry immediately. Never use ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemical solutions.

Gold plating is a microscopically thin coating that rubs through with daily wear. Gold filled is a thick layer of real gold mechanically bonded to the metal underneath — by law it must be at least 1/20th of the item's total weight, which works out to roughly a hundred times more gold than plating.

Our gold pieces are 18k gold filled over 925 sterling silver. No brass, no stainless, no mystery core.

Yes. Everything we sell is nickel-free, whether it is solid 925 sterling silver or 18k gold filled over sterling. Both are safe choices for sensitive skin.

30 days from delivery, for any reason. Email support@akjewelryco.com with your order number and we will send you a prepaid return label. Items need to be unworn and in their original packaging. Discounted items are returnable too.

Manufacturing defects are covered by our lifetime warranty for as long as you own the piece. If a clasp fails, a stone comes loose, or the gold layer separates, send us photos and we will replace or repair it free of charge.

Measure your wrist with a flexible tape measure. Add 0.5" for a snug fit, or 0.75"–1" for a comfortable everyday fit. A 6.5" wrist usually wears our 7" bracelet; a 7.5" wrist usually wears the 8". If you land between the two, size up. Full chart on our Size Guide.
